The Bhagirath Gram Vikas Pratishthan is a non-governmental organization which has been continuously working for rural development since 2004. The motivator behind developing this institution and making rural development its goal was the earthquake in Latur, Gujarat. Seeing the devastation that this national disaster caused, there was a plan to build an institution so that the development of rural areas could be ensured.

Gandhi asserted that “man should not be broken, his vices should be broken.” This is the motto of the institution. In this, continuous training of workers done through practice, discussions, film making etc. boosts their self-confidence.

For rural development, this institute looks forward to working on five major issues- WEHAB W-Water, E-Energy, H-Habitation, A-Agriculture, and B-Biotechushing.

Considering all these issues, the organization thought that if the migration of people from rural areas is stopped, then the people of the village would stay there and develop the village.

There will also be a possibility that the city dweller will go to the village and contribute to the developmental schemes.

Keeping this resolution in mind, the organization started many projects in collaboration with other cooperative institutions. The effect of this was that Vijay Savanj Ji, who was working in a private company. He left that institute and took training in warfare from this institute and today he is financially sound and is working to train other people about it.

Similarly, Shri Santosh Jharapkar Ji has been doing other construction work by taking biogas training from this institute. The team of 50 individuals from the village have produced more than 700 biogas so far. This is an important achievement of this prestigious institution.

Every month 20 lakh eggs came from Karnataka to the Sindhudurg district. The organization took an initiative under the name ‘Village of Eggs’. Today, for the last two years, 3 lakh eggs are being produced every month in the Wados village. The co-operative bank there helped in the completion of this project.

Irrigation facility is necessary for agriculture. For this, the institution arranged necessary SHP pumps, pipelines, etc. Now there is also an increase in production capacity.

Education is mandatory for social change and schools are necessary for education. The institution contemplated that their schools can assist as an ally for social change. Therefore, to fulfil this project, the facility of adequate schools is a necessity to have. The institution began working on this and started the conservation of trees on the school premises.

The institution also initiated the use of a digital system, provided bicycles to children and arranged to open bicycle training centres in each school.

To ensure skill development in children, two types of courses namely ILFS and CSR are run.

Along with studies, future skill training is also cultivated in children.

The organization also encourages rural individuals and rural society to familiarise themselves with novel scientific techniques like pressure cookers, biogas etc.

Due to a lack of facilities and resources, the migration of youth from rural areas is the highest, which is not good for the healthy building of a nation. Bhagirath Village Development Foundation is considerately putting efforts to curtail this crisis. So, village development can be further strengthened by stopping migration. For financial prosperity necessary promotion of employment and farming, entertainment, dissemination of literature for character building, gyms, blood donation camps, specialist physicians for women health camps and child development camps, need to be ensured to prevent future migration.

Today we are well aware that Ayurveda is slowly lapsing from India. Foods are becoming contaminated due to the effect of chemical fertilizers. Beholding these problems, this institution is working for the development of organic experimentation and Ayurvedic plants.

Perceiving the notable contribution this institution has made to rural development, ‘Sant Eshwer Foundation’ has decided to award Bhagirath Gram Vikas Pratishthan with the ‘Sant Eshwer Sewa Samman’ for the year 2019.
