Maharashtra 2019
A visionary and environmentalist who facilitated the construction of more than 700 check dams.
The perfection of life is delineated by the perfection of nature. If the conservation of nature is achieved then the protection of life is automatically substantiated. Shri Chaitram Pawar Ji prioritized making the Bharipada tribal community self-sufficient by contributing to the conservation and development of nature. He believed that water scarcity and famine can be avoided through the conservation and development of natural wealth. For this, he established more than 700 check dams to increase the greenery of the villages.
Consistent work was done on trees and forest cover as well as on water and soil conservation.
This conservation which was reduced to a few months, today has become a throughout the year running business. The impact of the movement that Pawar Ji started is visible in every sphere of life.
Along with this, to further strengthen life, he urged the schools to be regularly operated such that young boys and girls receive a quality education. With 26 years of continuous efforts and assistance from the people from the Dhulia village, ‘Van Achchhadan’ was realised. By creating more than 700 check dams, they improved groundwater and developed irrigation facilities too. Inspired by this novel and cutting-edge work, UNDP started the Eco-Friendly Scheme.
Shri Chaitram Pawar Ji belongs to the Konkani tribe. He hails from an untutored and humble family. After acquiring M.Com education, he decided to pursue a job due to financial constraints. Yet, he stayed constantly connected with social service. His village at that time was severely affected by poverty, illiteracy and consumption of intoxicants. Being born in such a milieu and the pain to be free from them is easily visible in Shri Pawar Ji’s labours.
It’s maintained that “Mahājano Yena gataḥ sa panthāḥ” indicates that this path of Shri Pawar Ji was made successful by Dr Anant Pathak. After completing his M.D. studies, he collaborated with Pawar Ji and in association with Vanvasi Kalyan Ashram started working in rural areas. This work distinctively inspired Pawar Ji who pledged to remove all inequalities from his village and successfully achieved the said result as well.
If a person gets employment and gets to work, then positive energy reverberates within him. Due to Pawar Ji’s efforts, people in his village attained a smooth ambience for conducting business and farming. Alongside there was also an amplification of optimistic thinking resulting in better living standards.
Pawar Ji’s biggest contribution was the protection of nature, in the form of water and soil conservation, due to which the production capacity in the agricultural sector scaled up. Financial prosperity followed and there came a wave of better life possibilities.
Keeping his tireless efforts and achievements in cognizance, ‘Sant Eshwer Foundation’ has nominated Shri Chaitram Pawar Ji for the Vishisht Sewa Samman for the year 2019, under the rural area category.
