Delhi 2021
A stoic Covid warrior who has conducted 12000 funerals of homeless and unclaimed bodies.
At the time of Corona crisis, when there was an atmosphere of disappointment and depression across the world, even at such a time there were many great human beings who regardless of the threat to their lives followed the human dharma. People of civilized society notwithstanding personal concerns, not only saved the lives of innumerable people but also served people with all their resources. One such social worker and a religious person is Shri Chiranjeev Malhotra, who as per customs performed the cremation rites of unclaimed people who had lost their lives during the Corona period.
Chiranjeev Malhotra Ji, a resident of Faiz Road in Karol Bagh, New Delhi, is personally dedicated to society and for his inspirational philanthropy spirit, he has been selected for Sant Eshwer Samman.
Chiranjeev Ji stresses that in today’s era, humanity and relationships are all ending gradually. Despite explaining multiple times, families whose members have lost their lives due to COVID-19 abhor touching the corpses and detest the sight as well. It has been extremely heart breaking that they used to leave corpses as unclaimed.
Beginning from the first lockdown, Chiranjeev Ji opened public kitchens to serve 7000 people every day.
Conducting the funeral of more than thirty thousand people who died due to corona and essentially completing their rites as per rituals, followed up by appropriate immersion of their mortal remains by the ambulance man – Chiranjeev Ji is beyond grasp. His determination picturises him as nothing less than a Godly man. He credits this service to Lord Shiva, with a humble outlook Chiranjeev Ji maintains that “our service was free, whether to ferry corona patients to the hospital in ambulances or take them for funeral or to take them for the immersion of their mortal remains. All this was selfless and free.” All these services done during the corona period were accomplished by Mahadev himself and he was directing the course of events. Beyond doubt, this service ignited special energy in him. Mahadev who performed and Mahadev alone who executed the actions. We all pray to God that while serving, we never get shackled by ego and by the grace of God, continue to serve the country.
Chiranjeev Ji assisted in the sanitisation of the slums and supplied free medicines and oxygen in the hospital. He also provided free ambulances for patients visiting the hospital and for transporting the deceased. He has also built a cowshed for young and old cows. Chiranjeev Ji has also been inclined towards the cause of the Hindu religion and he hasn’t even procured donations from anyone for this work.
He has done all the service work for human welfare from the capital earned from his business. The Sant Eshwer Foundation’s decision to honour social workers such as Chiranjeev Ji, who are devoted to the social cause with Sant Eshwer Samman, is a commendable initiative.
