A compelling institution invested in education and skill development of differently-abled children for more than a decade.
The root of service is in everyone’s interest. “Sarvabhuteshu hito rata” signifies that discerning the welfare of all living beings is service. There is nothing higher than that. God also wants that no one remains unhappy in the diversity created by him and intends that the difficult path of life become easy. Thus, He stands in front of those who serve. Of all the qualities of a man, the fast of service is the most virtuous and the best. It is being accomplished by Shreya School.
Concerned about the development of disabled children, in 2005, Dr K.V.R. Research Foundation, which works for health and rehabilitation, established the ‘Shreya School for Special Education of Divyangjan’. This institute has been continuously doing this great service for almost 15 years. The institute caters to the needs of children with different types of concerns. This organization is continuously connecting children such as children with hearing loss, children with language problems, self-centred children, Down syndrome etc. with the mainstream of society.
By timely identifying the needs of these children speech therapy, physiotherapy, psychological tests, dance therapy and hearing assessment are arranged. It is managed and operated from class 1st to 10th at a steady pace. So far four batches of class X students have passed with flying colours. This is a great achievement for this institute.
Skill development is very important for the development of the nation. India’s future depends on skill development. Many types of skill development schemes are going on for mainstream children. Shreya School accepts this challenge and directs these children towards vocational education. For the development of such children, it’s very important for the parents to have strong will power and to be financially sound. They are also trained by this organization. The institution identifies differently-abled children by conducting continuous social surveys. This lays the foundation of building a better society.
Keeping in mind the convenience of the children, a residential building equipped with new technologies has been constructed in which this school is functioning. Along with the reliable behaviour of the administrative staff, the paediatrician, speech therapist etc. are also regularised.
In this way, the children trained here feel mentally and physically capable. The children here had participated in the ‘Asnima’ program organized during Former President Dr A.P.J Kalam’s time. Many children have also received awards from the state government for vocational skill training. These children have also achieved their position in numerous cultural programs. There is a long list of children’s successes. They have protected their identity in every field. The organization also works to create a new consciousness among the children by organizing various cultural activities. Additionally, medical camps are also organized every year.
Disability is noted as a social and familial stigma. It’s considered a curse. Shreya School also organizes such programs so that the attitude of the society towards differently-abled can be altered. Seminars are structured in public arenas, movie screenings, discussions on TV. programs are conducted and exhibitions of documentaries is also organized. Awareness is also spread through puppet dances, brochures and pamphlets. Innumerable efforts are undertaken to reduce the prejudicial judgments that have developed among people towards disability. This organization is working on quaternary dimensions so that it can achieve its goal completely.
The institution being governed by distinguished and par-excellence child specialists is doing prestigious work for society as well as the nation. After witnessing the functioning of many paediatric hospitals, the resolution to build this institution emerged. Dr Srimannarayan saw the helpless condition of the children during the service work and contemplated that something should be done for their betterment. His mother was also a great social worker. Her works also impressed Narayanan Ji and Shreya School is before us with its goal embodied. Being a doctor and philosopher, his father also cooperated. This is a unique example of selfless service.
One of the goals of this organization is that such units should be formed in every village so that disabilities can be identified easily. Disability sometimes becomes genetic. It is also necessary to recognize this. In this case, the context of marriage should also be examined. In order to it detects genetic disability the institution thoroughly examines the child prior and post-delivery. At present, two types of projects are being run through Shreya School. In the first project, vocational training is being imparted to differently abled children in the age group of 6-10 years and parents are also being involved in their active role. This allows the child to get help in learning excessively. In the second project, children below the age of 5 are made aware of reading and learning and interest is awakened within them. About 400 children have benefitted from both these projects.
Seeing the ambitious service spirit, the ‘Sant Eshwer Foundation’ has awarded Shreya School with the ‘Sant Eshwer Seva Samman’ for the year 2019. With the best wishes that Shreya School continues to fashion the future with the same selfless service and enrich the lives of children.
