Bihar 2022
A social service organisation which is imparting the mantra of teaching and learning to hundreds of students from humble background through creative education systems like the ‘Vande Mataram Sandhya Pathshala’
Today we all are well aware of the significance of education. In technical or any related field, education makes our tasks accessible. It imparts to us the lessons of humanity. Education makes our life effortless and unproblematic. Thus, everyone including Madan Mohan Malaviya, Mahatma Gandhi, Baba Saheb Ambedkar, Mahatma Jyotiba Phule and Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ji were committedly working for delineating the importance of education. Today, there is a desire for equal education in society and our educational institutions are also appraising this. However, who will think of such children who are unable to reach educational institutions, such parents who are unaware of teaching their children? Seeing such children, a sense of pity definitely emerges in everyone’s heart, but are we able to do anything for them? Nevertheless, some people dedicated their lives to those works that bring change in society, through easy dissemination of education. Similarly, Shri. Abhishek Kumar Mishra Ji has worked in the field of education. He established the ‘Vande Mataram’ organization for children deprived of education.
In the year 2012-13, the convenor Abhishek Ji then a class XI student, saw young children working in hill ballast and other industrial places. The children came from extremely destitute homes and were isolated from the mainstream of society. He was determined to improve the future of these children through education. He considered that if the youth make positive efforts in this field, even at a minuscule level, then with the lantern of education, the lives of these children can be illuminated.
Inspired by these thoughts, ‘Vande Mataram Youth Mission’ was established. Since 2013, some youth groups have been providing free education to children from underprivileged slum areas in rural and urban areas of Gaya city. Every evening 1-2 hours of education is imparted by the ‘Vande Mataram Sandhya Pathshala’, in which they selflessly worked to provide better education to college, university students and other enthusiasts. At present, more than sixteen study centres are running in Gaya under this group, in which more than 1500 children are being benefited from the source of enlightenment.
The ‘Vande Mataram Youth Mission’ is currently working to educate these children through more than 15 evening schools with the help of a hundred teachers and volunteers. During the Corona pandemic, free education was provided to children through online mediums. Manish Kumar, a student who studied in evening school and is now teaching children, topped Bihar in the Intermediate Arts stream in the year 2019. This organization played an active role in the national level online competition “Summer Olympiad” in the year 2020. Abhishek Ji himself qualified his first class post-graduation from Gaya College in the year 2018.
Initially, the institution had to face many intricacies in working continuously by taking the local people into confidence to run the evening school. Generally, teaching was in front only in public places where there was a gathering of anti-social elements and there was a problem of disruption of classes by them. It was executed after a long struggle with the cooperation and benevolence of the local people. Worrying about society and doing any work for the needy is not easy. But with constant effort, Abhishek Ji remained engaged in this work with the spirit of service. Enthusiasm was also a problem as new students were added to the groups during successive assignments. Although with the cooperation of the youth, the work continued to move forward. With the growth of the groups, the responsibilities also increased, which also required financial support. This problem is being resolved with the cooperation of various doctors, teachers, businessmen etc. who are doing social welfare work.
Through the ‘Vande Mataram Yuva Mission Sandhya Pathshala’, children got connected with education and awareness about learning increased in them. Most of the children were enrolled in government schools but didn’t attend classes. But with creative education systems like Sandhya Pathshala, the children easily got connected and developed progressively. The gathering of anti-social elements gradually ended at the places where evening schools started and awareness about education also proliferated among the local people.
Evening study centres were started at new places by the group as per the requirement and a large chain of youths who taught free of cost continued to escalate. Those students who used to attend evening schools five years ago to take education in eighth and ninth grade, are today imparting education at various centres and forming an effective chain.
At places where evening study centres were commenced, the awareness of education has also come positively among the parents. With the help of these educated children, sanitation and health-related awareness in the area is blooming. Further, drugs and other anti-social activities are also being banned to a great extent. Those children who earlier used to ruin their entire day in worthless activities and intoxication etc., today they have started concentrating on their studies.
According to the program organized by the ‘Vande Mataram Youth Mission Group’, the collection of donations in public is done by the workers associated with the group. As a result of the increase in the activities of the groups, at present many dignitaries of the city provide financial support, in which Dr. Vijay Kumar Karan, Shri Anand Kumar, Shri Ravi Kumar etc. are some of the prominent names. The ‘Vande Mataram Mission’ has done immense work in the education sector that it has assumed a separate identity. Along with this, they have also been honored with various awards such as Shiksha Shree Award in the year 2015 by the Akshar Sansar Foundation, and participation in organizing world famous Pitrupaksha Mahila in 2019 under the aegis of District Administration, Gaya. Furthermore, active cooperation and participation in the Book Fair cum Magadh Cultural Festival, Gaya, honored by Bhagat Singh Youth Brigade in 2019, honored by Lions Club, Gaya in the year 2021 on the occasion of Teacher’s Day. The mission has also been honored by various government and non-government organizations etc. The ‘Vande Mataram Youth Mission’ is working towards invoking change in society and guiding the youth
